General Notes: Martin Shuey served as a captain in the War of 1812. He remained inthe military after the war and later became a general. In 1820 hebegan to go west, going to Shelby County, Indiana. In 1829 he went toAdams County, Illinois. In 1860 he drove a team of horses across theplans and met his son, John, in California. Noted events in his life were: • He served in the military during the War of 1812 between 1805 and 1826 in Ohio. 2 He choose as Lieutenant of an newly formed rifle comapny. In 1810 he was elected as the Captain an placed in command of the Eighte Military District of Ohio throughout the War of 1812. Elected as Colonel of the battalion and then General of the regiment. Martin married Mary Margaret Shupert [1092] [MRIN: 486], daughter of John Shupert [1157] and Elizabeth Ludewig [1158], on 30 Jun 1808 in Montgomery County, Ohio.1 2 3 (Mary Margaret Shupert [1092] was born on 22 Feb 1788 in Stouchsburg, Pennsylvania 3 8 and died on 25 Nov 1879 in East Oakland, California.)
