Joshua Gage Baker [4424]
Noted events in his life were: • He worked as a butcher before 1849. 1 • He worked as a gold mining 1849 to 1851 in California. 1 "... in 1849, at the height of the gold excitement, he went overland to California, where he spent two years prospecting and mining." • He worked as a sea captain after 1851. 1 "After his return to the East he followed a seafaring life for about twenty years, engaging in the coast trade between New Bedford and nearby ports, going to Philidelphia for coal, and in the winter months running to the West Indies. He was master of the schooner "Adelaide" and the "Henriatta," and of the brig "Ormers," of which he was part owner." Joshua married Mary Briggs [4429] [MRIN: 1595], daughter of Elihu Briggs [4430] and Polly Kelly [4431], on 14 Apr 1834 in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.1 2 (Mary Briggs [4429] was born on 29 May 1816 in Massachusetts 1 and died in 1841.) Joshua next married Susan Kelly Briggs [4436] [MRIN: 1598], daughter of Elihu Briggs [4430] and Polly Kelly [4431], on 15 Jan 1842 in Massachusetts.1 (Susan Kelly Briggs [4436] was born on 26 Sep 1826 in Massachusetts,1 died on 9 Jan 1860 and was buried in South Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.) |
